The PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) is a professional-level program that prepares divers to become certified PADI Instructors. It includes both the Assistant Instructor (AI) and Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) courses, culminating in the Instructor Examination (IE).
To enroll in the IDC, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Be certified as a PADI Divemaster or equivalent.
- Have at least 60 logged dives (100 logged dives are required before the Instructor Examination).
- Hold a CPR and First Aid certification within the last 24 months (such as Emergency First Response).
You’ll practice foundational diving skills, safety techniques, and how to use scuba equipment during confined water and open water dives.

Yes, you should have a full set of dive gear, including:
- Regulator with alternate air source
- Buoyancy Control Device (BCD)
- Dive computer
- Exposure suit (wetsuit/drysuit)
- Mask, fins, snorkel
- Additional equipment such as underwater slates and a timing device may be required.
