Underwater Archaeology – Dive into History
Explore submerged history with the Underwater Archaeology specialty. Learn how to get certified and uncover artifacts while preserving the past.
The Underwater Archaeology Diver course focuses on giving students a chance to learn the basics of underwater archaeology and participate in activities at submerged sites. You’ll refine navigation and buoyancy techniques, while applying the skills learned in the theory to help create and execute a project plan.

- Introduction to the basic fundamentals of underwater archaeology
- Demonstrate the main points of Project Planning for surveying underwater sites
- Identify best practices for safety and risk management on underwater archaeological sites
- Demonstrate the techniques for discovering, finding and marking submerged sites.
- Understand Local and International laws regarding submerged archaeological sites and finds
- Demonstrate how to work in an archaeological team setting and record data
Course prerequisites: PADI Open Water Diver, Junior Open Water Diver, or qualifying entry-level certification.

During the Underwater Archaeology Diver course, your instructor will ask you to:
- Complete the knowledge development from the Underwater Archaeology Diver course.
- Successfully complete the first three confined water dives.
- Participate in two open water dives, demonstrating essential skills like project planning, navigation, buoyancy control, and collection and recording of data.
This PADI specialty teaches divers how to explore and document underwater historical sites while preserving their integrity.
Certified Open Water Divers (or higher) aged 10+ with an interest in history and underwater exploration are welcome to join.
You’ll learn techniques for mapping, documenting, and conserving underwater artifacts, along with proper survey methods for historical sites.
Basic scuba gear is required. Additional tools, such as slates, measuring tapes, and grids, are provided during the course.
The course typically includes two dives and can be completed over one or two days, depending on the training schedule.
Payments:
- All courses must be paid in full at the time of purchase.
- Payments can be made via our accepted methods, either in person or through our online booking system.
Course Cancellation:
- If a dive is canceled by Estepona Dive Center due to adverse weather or sea conditions, clients will receive a full refund for the affected dive(s).
- We prioritize your safety and will make decisions regarding cancellations based on professional assessments of the conditions.
Non-Transferability:
- All courses, dives, and associated bookings are non-transferable. Bookings and course registrations are assigned to the individual and cannot be transferred to another person under any circumstances.
Client Responsibilities:
- Estepona Dive Center reserves the right to reschedule or cancel activities due to unforeseen circumstances, including weather, sea conditions, or instructor availability. In such cases, affected clients will be notified as soon as possible and offered either a refund or an alternative date.
No-Show Policy:
- No refunds will be given for no-shows or late arrivals that result in missed sessions. Please ensure you arrive on time and are prepared for your scheduled activities.
